Encarta World Atlas: Error Messages When You Switch from Virtual Flight to Statistics Center (239632)

SYMPTOMS

When you press CTRL+S to switch from a Virtual Flight to the Statistics Center in Microsoft Encarta World Atlas 2000 or Microsoft Encarta Interactive World Atlas 2001, you receive the following message:
Please insert the 'Encarta Interactive World Atlas 2001' disc into your CD-ROM drive to run the program.
If you click Cancel, Encarta World Atlas quits unexpectedly, and you may be unable to restart the program.

If you remove the Installation and Resources Disc CD-ROM from the CD-ROM drive and insert the Atlas Disc CD-ROM, you may receive an error message similar to the following on a blue screen:
Error reading CD-ROM in Drive D:
Please insert CD-ROM 2EWA002
With Serial Number D8C8-B110 in Drive D:

If the CD-ROM is still in the drive, it may require cleaning.
If you press ENTER, the error message remains on the blue screen.

If you press ESC, the blue screen disappears and you receive the following error message while the Virtual Flight runs in the background:
Please insert the 'Installation and Resources' disc into your CD-ROM drive to run the program.
If you click Cancel, Encarta World Atlas quits unexpectedly, and you may be unable to restart the program.

If you remove the Atlas Disc CD-ROM from the CD-ROM drive and insert the Installation and Resources Disc CD-ROM , you may receive an error message similar to the following on a blue screen:
Error reading CD-ROM in Drive D:
Please insert CD-ROM 2EWA002
With Serial Number D8C8-B110 in Drive D:

If the CD-ROM is still in the drive, it may require cleaning.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue in Encarta World Atlas 2000, restart the computer.

To resolve this issue in Encarta Interactive World Atlas 2001, use the Copy to Hard Disk feature. To do this, click Start, point to Programs, point to Microsoft Encarta, and then click, Copy World Atlas to Hard Disk.

To prevent this issue from occurring, do not press CTRL+S to switch from a Virtual Flight to the Statistics Center.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
