Works: Temporary File Is Not Deleted When You Quit Works (239403)

SYMPTOMS

When you print a mail-merge document from the Microsoft Works Word Processor, a large temporary file is created in the Windows\Temp folder on your hard disk. This file may not be deleted when you quit Works.

The name of this file is

Wks####.tmp

where #### is a binary number.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you select the Send merge result to a new document check box in the Print dialog box.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, delete the Wks####.tmp file:
  1. Quit all programs that are running on your computer.
  2. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  3. In the Named box, type wks*.tmp.
  4. In the Look in box, click My Computer, and then click Find Now.
  5. On the Edit menu, click Select All.
  6. On the file menu, click Delete. When you are prompted to confirm the file deletion (or the multiple file deletion), click Yes.
  7. Close the Find: Files Named Wks*.tmp window.
NOTE: You cannot delete a temporary file that is currently in use by Works.
