Works 2000: Empty Address Book Opens When You Import Works Database File (239334)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Address Book Converter in Microsoft Works 2000 to import a Works database (.wdb) file, an empty Address Book may open.

You do not receive an error message explaining why the conversion process was not successful.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you moved the Abimp.txt file, or if the file is file is missing or damaged.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, move the Abimp.txt file to its original location:
  1. Quit Works 2000 if it is running.
  2. Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
  3. In the Named box, type abimp.txt.
  4. In the Look in box, click My Computer, and then click Find Now.
  5. In the list of found files, right-click the Abimp.txt file, and then click Cut.

    NOTE: If you do not find the Abimp.txt file, skip the remaining steps, and reinstall Works 2000.
  6. Close the Find: Files Named Abimp.txt window.
  7. Click Start, and then click Run.
  8. In the Open box, type the following line (including the quotation marks), and then click OK

    "drive:\program files\microsoft works"

    where drive is the drive letter of the hard disk on which Works 2000 is installed.
  9. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
  10. Close the Microsoft Works window, and then start Works 2000.
If the issue continues to occur, reinstall Works 2000.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
