The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Works Suite 2000
  • Microsoft Works 2000

This article was previously published under Q239267

SYMPTOMS

If you click Cancel instead of Save As in the Save As dialog box to cancel saving a Microsoft Works 2000 Word Processor document or a Microsoft Word document in Works 2000, the file is not saved, but the date on the History tab is updated with the current date. This behavior can occur if you do the following:
  1. Open a Works Word Processor file.
  2. Leave it open for more than 1 day.
  3. Make changes to the document.
  4. On the File menu, click Save As.
  5. In the Save As dialog box, click Cancel.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the following conditions are true:
  • You open a Works 2000 Word Processor document or a Word document from within Works 2000.
  • You leave the document open for 1 day, and then make changes to the document.
  • You click Save As on the File menu, and then click Cancel in the Save As dialog box.
NOTE: In this case, the file date on the History tab is based, not on when you last saved the file, but on when you last closed it.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
