Works 2000: Text on the Scroll Bar of Database and Spreadsheet Is Too Small (239255)

SYMPTOMS

The text on the horizontal scroll bar of the Microsoft Works 2000 Spreadsheet and Database programs may be too small and difficult to read.

The affected text includes "Zoom" in Spreadsheet, and "Record" and "Zoom" in Database.

NOTE: To see the Record command on the Database scroll bar, you must click Form or Form Design on the View menu.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur with some of the Microsoft Windows appearance schemes. Some Windows appearance schemes set the scroll bar height to a smaller number. For example, the Teal and Wheat schemes set the scroll bar to a considerably smaller size than does the Windows Standard scheme.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, use one of the following methods.

Method 1

Set the Windows appearance scheme to a scheme that provides a satisfactory appearance. Both the Windows Classic and the Windows Standard appearance schemes (as well as others) have a scroll bar size of 16. To change Windows appearance schemes, follow these steps:

Click Start on the Windows taskbar, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click the Display icon.
Click the Appearance tab.
Select the appearance scheme that you want in the Scheme box, and then click OK.

Method 2

Modify a Windows appearance scheme to increase the size of the scroll bar to 16 or larger. To modify a Windows appearance scheme, follow these steps:

Click Start on the Windows taskbar, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click the Display icon.
Click the Appearance tab.
Select the appearance scheme that you want to modify in the Scheme box.
Select Scrollbar in the Item box.
Select 16 (or larger) in the Size box, and then click OK.
