Works 2000: Spelling Checker Does Not Correct Misspellings in Cells Referencing Other Cells (239239)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Works 2000
  • Microsoft Works Suite 2000

This article was previously published under Q239239

SYMPTOMS

When you run the spelling checker in a Microsoft Works 2000 Spreadsheet, not all of the misspelled words are found.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the misspelled words were originally created as part of a reference to another cell. For example:
  1. Type Werks 2000 in cell A1 of a Spreadsheet.
  2. In cell C1 of the same Spreadsheet, type the following equation:

    =A1.

Werks 2000 appears in cell C1 when you press ENTER.
  3. On the Tools menu, click Spelling.
  4. When the spelling checker finds "Werks", type Works in the Change to box, and then click Change. The message

    Spelling check finished

appears, but the misspelling in cell C1 is still present.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, press F9 to command a recalculation as soon as the spelling checker is finished.

NOTE: If you perform any other actions before you press F9, the spelling may not be corrected, and you will have to re-enter the formula to get the correct spelling.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
