SYMPTOMS

When you format a border around a Microsoft Works 2000 Spreadsheet cell or a Works Database column, and then you attempt to reformat part of the border, the border may not be changed as expected.

Example 1

  1. Start the Works 2000 Spreadsheet program.
  2. Select cell B2.
  3. On the Format menu, click Border.
  4. Under Border, select Outline.
  5. Under Line style, select any line style, and then click OK.

Note the border that you selected around cell B2.
  6. Select cell B2.
  7. On the Format menu, click Border.
  8. Under Line style, select any line style that is different than the one that you selected in step 5.
  9. Under Border select Bottom.

Note that the line style that you just selected is displayed in the Outline box, and that the Bottom box is stippled.
  10. Click OK.

Note that the entire border has changed instead of just the bottom line.
NOTE: If you select the blank line style in step 8, no changes take place with the border.

Example 2

  1. Start Works 2000 Database and create a new database with two fields.
  2. Select a cell in Field2.
  3. On the Format menu, click Border.
  4. Under Line style, select any line style.
  5. Under Border, select Top, Left, and Right.

NOTE: Click the border section box until the line style that you selected appears in that box.
  6. Click OK.

Note the border around every cell in Field2.
  7. Select a cell in Field2.
  8. On the Format menu, click Border.
  9. Under Line style, select any line style that is different than the one that you selected in step 4.

Note that the border line style changes in the Left box, even if that is not the border section that you wanted to change.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you select the border line style before you select the border section that you want to reformat.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, always select the border section that you want to reformat before you select the line style.

  4. Under Border, select Outline.

  6. Select cell B2.
  7. On the Format menu, click Border.
  8. Under Border select Bottom.

Note that the Outline box is blank, and that the Bottom box is stippled.
  9. Under Line style, select any line style that is different than the one that you selected in step 5 (including the blank line style).
  10. Click OK.

The change to the border section has been successfully implemented.

Example 2

  1. Start Works 2000 Database and create a new database with two fields.
  2. Select a cell in Field2.
  3. On the Format menu, click Border.
  4. Under Line style, select any line style.

Note the border around every cell in Field2.
  7. Select a cell in Field2.
  8. On the Format menu, click Border.

Note that the Top box is stippled.
