The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Works for Windows 95, version 4.0
This article was previously published under Q239175 SYMPTOMS
If you insert a Microsoft Works spreadsheet into another program (such
as Microsoft Word or Microsoft WordPad), create or edit data in a cell
in the spreadsheet, and then press CTRL+N to open a new document in the
other program, you receive the following error message:
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
When you click OK, you receive an error message similar to the
following
filename caused an invalid page fault in module
Worksss.exe.
where filename is the name of the program file of
the other program.
NOTE: If you continue to use the Word or WordPad document, Word
or WordPad stops responding, and you lose all data that you have typed
or entered into the document since you last saved the document.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because keyboard shortcuts that are used to open
new documents do not work properly with embedded objects.
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, click New on the File menu to
open a new document in the other program.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Works, version 4.0 for Windows 95.
