This article was previously published under Q239167 SYMPTOMS
When you Copy a large Works Spreadsheet and then Paste the contents into an Excel Worksheet, it may take a long time to complete the operation.
A Pentium 90 computer may take as much as 3 minutes, faster machines may take 5 to 10 seconds.
When you Paste the same spreadsheet into another Works Spreadsheet, it takes very little time to complete the ooperation.
CAUSE
This problem occurs if you click Select All on the Edit menu to select the Works Spreadsheet data, before you Copy the data. The Select All command selects all the cells in the Spreadsheet, including the empty cells.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, use the mouse to select only the cells that contain data before you click Copy on the Edit menu.
TIP: A fast way to do this is to click the left uppermost cell of the spreadsheet, then press SHIFT while you click the right lowermost cell of the spreadsheet.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
