Works 2000: Size of Calendar Database File Does Not Change When You Delete Appointments (239155)

SYMPTOMS

When you remove an appointment from the Microsoft Works 2000 Calendar, the size of the calendar database file (Mswkscal.wcd) remains the same.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the Works 2000 Calendar database file cannot be compacted.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, remove Works 2000, delete the calendar database file, and then reinstall Works 2000:
  1. Insert the Works 2000 CD-ROM into your CD-ROM drive.

    If Works Setup does not start automatically, click Start, click Run, type the following line in the Open box, and then click OK

    drive:\setup.exe

    where drive is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive.
  2. On the Welcome Back screen, click Next.
  3. On the Options screen, click Remove, and then click Next.
  4. When you are prompted to Save the Microsoft Works Calendar database, click No, and then click Next.
  5. Follow the instructions on the screen to remove Works 2000 from your computer.
  6. Click Start, and then click Run.
  7. Type the following line in the Open box, and then click OK

    drive:\setup.exe

    where drive is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive.
  8. On the Welcome screen, click Next.
  9. Follow the instructions on the screen to reinstall Works 2000 on your computer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Works 2000.

MORE INFORMATION

To save certain appointments on the Works 2000 calendar, delete the appointments that you do not want to save, and then export the calendar as a vCalendar file.

After you reinstall Works 2000, import the vCalendar file that contains the appointments that you saved.
