PPT2000: Columns or Rows Missing from Inserted Gantt Chart (238794)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft PowerPoint 2000
  • Microsoft Project 98 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q238794

SYMPTOMS

If you insert a Gantt chart from Microsoft Project into Microsoft PowerPoint, beginning and ending columns or rows may be missing. Also, you are unable to resize the object or insert the same object again.

CAUSE

Microsoft Project can only copy the information in the current window to the Clipboard. Therefore, if you have selected more than one screen of information, the Clipboard only copies the information on the screen when you run the Copy command.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods.

Method 1: Reduce the Font Size

Reduce the total size of the Gantt chart by reducing the size of the text. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. In Microsoft Project, click Text Styles on the Format menu.
  2. In the Item to Change list, click All.
  3. Click a smaller font size. Click OK.
Reduce the font size until the entire project is visible at once. Now, when you use a copy and paste operation, the Gantt chart should appear in its entirety.

Method 2: Copy as a Picture

NOTE: This method works only with Microsoft Project 98 or later, using the Copy Picture feature:
  1. In Microsoft Project 98, on the Standard toolbar, click the Copy Picture button.
  2. Under Render image, click For screen.
  3. Under Copy, click Selected rows.
  4. Under TimeScale, click As shown on screen.
  5. Click OK.
  6. In PowerPoint 97, point to Paste Special on the Edit menu, and then click Picture (Enhanced Metafile).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
