How to Troubleshoot Elsa Winner 2000 Pro/X Video Adapter (238598)

SYMPTOMS

When you restart your computer after you install Windows 2000, you may receive the following stop error message or a black screen may be displayed:
STOP 0x0000007A (0xe18ea350, 0xc0000185, 0xa00c41c3, 0x02f43860)

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you use an Elsa Winnner 2000 Pro/X video adapter and an S3 Vision968 driver.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Restart your computer, pressing F8 during startup to select the VGA Mode, and then start your computer again.
  2. In VGA Mode, click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Hardware.
  3. Click Next, click Uninstall/Unplug a device, and then click Next.
  4. In the list of devices on your computer, click the S3 Vision968 video adapter, and then click Next.
  5. Follow the steps on your screen to complete the wizard.
  6. Double-click Add/Remove Hardware, click Next, and then click Add/Troubleshoot a device.
  7. Under Devices, click Add a new device, and then click Next.
  8. Click No, I want to select the hardware from a list, and then click Next.
  9. Click Next, click Display adapters, and then click Next.
  10. In the Manufacturers box, click S3, click S3 911/924/928/964/968 Compatible Graphics Adapter in the Models box, and then click Next.
  11. Follow the steps on your screen to complete the wizard, and then restart your computer.
  12. After you restart your computer, Windows 2000 detects the video adapter again and installs the S3 Vision968 video driver. If you are prompted to restart the computer, click No.
  13. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.
  14. On the Hardware tab, click Device Manager.
  15. In Device Manager, right-click S3 Vision968 under Display adapters, and then click Disable. If you are prompted with the following message Disabling this device will cause it to stop functioning. Do you really want to disable it?, click Yes.
  16. Restart your computer.
