SYMPTOMS

When you try to use the spelling checker, you receive the following error message:
PowerPoint can't load the main spelling dictionary. You should run Setup and reinstall.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you set English (Canada) as the default language in Microsoft PowerPoint.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

To set the default language in PowerPoint, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Language.
  2. Click the language that you want, and then click Default.
  3. Click Yes to confirm that you want to change the default language.
