SYMPTOMS

When you use an HTML filter in Site Server Search, an application thread may stop responding and CPU utilization will approach 100 percent for IIS. This problem can occur when you are indexing HTML documents, including Microsoft Office 2000 documents.

CAUSE

The HTML filter loops infinitely in some cases. This is caused by a failure to correctly parse the following HTML:

HTML xmlns:o = "foo"

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Site Server 3.0. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

WORKAROUND

Remove the spaces on either side of the equal sign (=).

STATUS

This problem was first corrected in Site Server 3.0 Service Pack 3.
