Documentation Errors in the Programs.txt Files (236798)

The Programs.txt files included with Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition contain the fefollowing incorrect information about the Microsoft Office 97 Service Release 1 (SR-1) Patch:

If Windows 95 and Office 97 are installed on your computer and you
then upgrade to Windows 98, the Office 97 Service Release 1 patch
cannot be installed on your system. However, if you install the
Office 97 Service Release 1 patch before you upgrade to Windows
98, the patch should work correctly.
An Office 97 Service Release 2 patch is planned for release in
Summer 1998. The Service Release 2 patch can be used on both
Windows 95 and Windows 98 systems.

CAUSE
This information only applies to earlier version of the Office 97 SR-1 Patch. An updated SR-1 patch, now available from the Microsoft web site, prevents these problems from occurring.
RESOLUTION
The latest Office 97 Service Release patches can be installed from the following Microsoft Web site:
Both the SR-2 patch and the updated SR-1 patch can be installed on Windows 98 and Windows 98 Second Edition.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
