VIZACT: AutoEffects Play Outside the Borders of Shapes and AutoShapes (236671)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Vizact 2000

This article was previously published under Q236671

SYMPTOMS

When you apply an AutoEffect (such as Sparkles, Bubbles, or Clouds) to a Shape or AutoShape, the AutoEffect plays outside the border of the Shape or AutoShape. For example, if you apply the Smoke AutoEffect to an oval, the Smoke displays outside the border of the oval.

CAUSE

AutoEffects are not aware of the actual lines that are drawn in a shape. The size and dimensions of the bounding area of an AutoShape can only be a rectangular block on the page. The size of this block is determined not by the lines in the Shape or AutoShape, but by the size and coordinates of the rectangular space around the Shape or AutoShape.

WORKAROUND

You cannot make an AutoEffect play only within the bounds of the line in a Shape or AutoShape. However, you can create several smaller rectangle shapes, set the borders and fill color on them to none, and arrange them so that they partially fill the inside of the line on your original Shape or AutoShape. Then, apply the AutoEffect to these new shapes. Note that you must apply the AutoEffect to each shape individually. Or, you can apply the AutoEffect to the first shape, copy it, and then paste it several times on the page. The AutoEffect is automatically applied to the pasted shape.
