MOD2000: HTML Help Workshop's View HTML Source Button Does Not Work in an Index File (236524)

SYMPTOMS

The View HTML source button in the HTML Help Wizard does not show the source of the HTML file.

CAUSE

The View HTML source button does not work when you have an index file open.

RESOLUTION

To view the source of an HTML file associated with an index file while you are working in HTML Help Workshop, follow these steps:
  1. On the File menu, click Open.
  2. In the Files of type list, click HTML Files.
  3. Click to select the appropriate HTML file, and then click Open.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Start HTML Help Workshop.
  2. On the File menu, click New.
  3. In the Specify what to create list, click Index, and then click OK.
  4. Click Insert a keyword.
  5. In the Keyword box, type First Keyword, then click Add.
  6. Click Browse. In the Open dialog box, open the Windows\Help folder, click to select any HTML file (*.htm), and then click Open.
  7. In the Path or URL box, type My Title in the Title box, and then click OK.
  8. Click OK to close the Index Entry dialog box.
  9. Select First Keyword, and then click the View HTML source button. Note that you do not see the source of the HTML file.
