OFF2000: Incorrect Registry Keys Listed in Instructions for Elevating Privileges on Windows NT (236442)

SYMPTOMS

The steps listed in the section titled "To enable elevated privilege on a user's computer by using policies" on page 119 of the Microsoft Office 2000 Resource Kit contain some incorrect information. The registry keys listed in steps 3 and 5 are incorrect.

WORKAROUND

The correct registry key to use for step 3 is as follows:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer

The correct registry key to use for step 5 is as follows:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer

NOTE: These two registry keys may not be present on your computer. You may have to manually create the registry keys.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
