SUMMARY

To install Microsoft Exchange 2000 Server or Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 in a Windows 2000 root domain (or "parent" domain), the account used must be a member of the root domain Domain Admins group.

To add the Exchange Service Account to the Windows 2000 Domain Admins group:
  1. Open the Active Directory Users and Computers Microsoft Management Console (MMC) snap-in on a domain controller in the root domain.
  2. Right-click the Exchange Service Account, and then click Add members to a group.
  3. Click the Domain Admins group, and then click OK.
To install Exchange on a server in a root domain:
  1. Log on to the server in the root domain using the root domain service account.

    User name: root domain exchange service account
    Password: exchange service account password
    Log on to: root domain name

  2. Run Setup from your Exchange CD-ROM.Note The Setup.exe file is located in the Setup\platform folder on the Exchange CD-ROM.
