OL2000: MS Mail Service Is Not Available When You Create a New Profile (236021)
The information in this article applies to:
This article was previously published under Q236021 SYMPTOMS
The Inbox Setup Wizard does not list MS Mail as a mail service when you create your initial profile. This is true even if you have previously installed the MS Mail Post Office from your Microsoft Windows CD-ROM.
CAUSE
This is by design to avoid confusion between MS Mail and other mail services that are available from Microsoft. The service is available in Outlook, but it is not advertised in the wizard.
WORKAROUND
You can manually add MS Mail as a mail service through the Inbox Setup Wizard. To install the MS Mail service:
- On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- Double-click Mail or Mail and Fax.
- Click Show Profiles, and then click Add.
- Click Manually configure information services, and then click Next.
- Type a name for your mail profile, and then click Next.
- In the Properties dialog box, click Add.
- Click Microsoft Mail, and then click OK.
After you follow these procedures, configure the mail service with the path to your mail server and other information that is specific to your mail system.
Microsoft Exchange Server and Internet E-mail are also not listed in the Inbox Setup Wizard.
