257824 OL2000: Differences Between Outlook and Outlook Express

SYMPTOMS

When you type a text string that begins with two slashes (//), Outlook Express may convert the text string into a live link.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Outlook Express interprets the two slashes as a "File:" protocol and replaces the slashes with "file://".

NOTE: Outlook Express also converts other resource identifier prefixes (for example, "http://" or "ftp://") into live links.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, type a space between the two slashes and the first character in the text sting. For example:

// string

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
