Content Replication Service Mail Message Ignores Line Feeds When Sent to Lotus Notes (235018)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Site Server 3.0
  • Microsoft Site Server 3.0 Commerce Edition

This article was previously published under Q235018

SYMPTOMS

When a Content Replication Service 3.0 SMTP replication report is sent to a Lotus Notes SMTP server and viewed with a Lotus Notes client, the report message is displayed incorrectly. Line feeds are not processed and displayed as vertical bars. The report is one long line that autowraps incorrectly. When the report is sent to Microsoft Outlook, it displays correctly. This problem does not occur with the Site Server Content Replication Service version 2.0, even when the report is sent to Lotus Notes.

CAUSE

Content Replication Service 3.0 uses base64 encoding on the subject and message body. Lotus Notes does not process just Line feeds when base64 encoding is used. In Content Replication Service version 2.0, the message is sent using plain text. Therefore, Site Server Content Replication Service 2.0 works correctly, but version 3.0 does not.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Site Server 3.0. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
