Cannot Install "Character Map" in Add/Remove Programs (234888)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to install the Character Map tool from the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel, Character Map is not on the list of installable tools. The following tools may also be missing:

Mouse Pointers
Net Watcher
Quick View
System Monitor
Windows 95 Tour
Multilanguage Support

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you installed Windows 95 from floppy disk. The tools listed earlier in this article are available on the Windows 95 CD-ROM, but not on the floppy disks.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, follow the instructions listed in the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
