SBFM2000: Incorrect Total Cash Flow for Simply Accounting Data (234127)

SYMPTOMS

When you create a Cash Flow report, the total cash flow for the period is a different number from what appears in your cash flow report in your accounting program.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you do the following in the Small Business Financial Manager:
  • You import accounting data from ACCPAC Simply Accounting.

    -and-

  • You create a Cash Flow report.

    -and-

  • The reporting period includes the purchase of a fixed asset and depreciation on fixed assets.

WORKAROUND

You can use the Remap Data command to move any account to a different category before you create your Cash Flow report. To remap accounts, do the following:
  1. After you import your ACCPAC Simply Accounting data, on the Financial Manager menu, click Remap Data.
  2. In the Map Your Accounts dialog box, click the plus symbol to expand Assets. Click the plus symbol to expand Cash and Cash Equivalents.
  3. Click the account you want to move; for example, a fixed asset account 1820 Office Furniture & Equipment. Click Cut.
  4. Click the account to move the fixed asset account to, and click Paste.
  5. Repeat steps 3-4 to move additional accounts to other categories.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

When you import accounting data from ACCPAC Simply Accounting and create a cash flow report, the report treats fixed assets purchased in that period as cash equivalents, increasing the cash flow. Additionally, depreciation for that period is treated as an operating expense, reducing the cash flow. To correct this problem, remap the accounting data by using the Remap Data command and rerun your reports.
