SYMPTOMS

When you run Setup for Office, the following error message may appear:
This installation is forbidden by system policy. Contact your system administrator.

CAUSE

This error message may appear if all of the following are true:
  • You have the Disable browse dialog box for new source system policy turned on. -and-

  • The location from which you installed Office is not available. -and-

  • In Windows Explorer, you located another source of Office 2000 files on your network. -and-

  • You started Setup.exe from the alternate source location.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, do not use the Disable browse dialog box for new source system policy.

MORE INFORMATION

The Disable browse dialog box for new source system policy prevents you from using any Office source locations other than that from which you originally ran setup (or specified by the SOURCELIST property during Setup).
