RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, reuse the Small Business Server 4.0 Client Add Pack before you upgrade a server to Small Business Server 4.5.
If you did not apply the Small Business Server 4.0 Client Add Pack (CAP) diskettes before upgrading to Small Business Server 4.5, you can use the CAP Upgrade utility to make a permanent, one-time, one-way conversion of the diskette so it can be applied to Small Business Server 4.5. The utility is available as a no-charge download from the following Microsoft Web site:
If you have already attempted to re-apply a Small Business Server 4.0 Client Add Pack diskette to an Small Business Server 4.5 Server (i.e., one that was re-installed using Small Business Server 4.0 and then immediately upgraded to Small Business Server 4.5, before the Small Business Server 4.0 add pack was re-applied), the Small Business Server 4.0 CAP diskette may become corrupted and unusable.
NOTE: If you attempt to run Setup.exe from the temporary directory instead of Convert.exe, you may get a message that the disk is corrupt or unusable. Setup.exe is the executable that gets copied to the Client Add Pack and generates this error because it is trying to read the Client Add Pack header information from the hard drive. You should only see this error when trying to run setup.exe from a damaged Client Add Pack.
Running the Client Add Pack Upgrade utility on a Small Business Server 4.0 CAP diskette may not successfully convert the diskette a useable Small Business Server 4.5 CAP. The only resolution to this situation is to obtain a replacement diskette in exchange for the damaged one.
To exchange you damaged diskette, please contact Microsoft Technical Support for the information needed and the address to which your request for replacement can be sent.
