The Empty Recycle Bin Sound Is Played for All Menus (232923)

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade your Hewlett Packard (HP) Pavilion computer using the Utopia sound scheme to Windows 98 Second Edition, the "Empty Recycle Bin" sound may be the sound that is played every time you use a menu. For example, you may hear this sound when you click Start, right-click a file or folder, and so on.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, remove and then reinstall Multimedia Sound Schemes:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  2. Click the Windows Setup tab, click the word Multimedia (not the check box), and then click Details.
  3. Click to clear the Multimedia Sound Schemes check box, and then click OK.
  4. Click to select the Multimedia Sound Schemes check box, and then click OK.
  5. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Sounds.
  6. In the Schemes box, click Utopia Sound Scheme, and then click OK.
