NetMeeting Cannot Run When You Are Running a DVD-ROM Program (232813)

SYMPTOMS

When you join a Microsoft NetMeeting conference and play a DVD-ROM disk simultaneously, you may receive the following error message:
DVD Player has encountered a Macrovision violation and cannot play this media. Please try a different media, or contact your system manufacturer.

CAUSE

This issue can occur because NetMeeting and DVD-ROM decoding solutions use some of the same resources.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, do not run NetMeeting while you are using a DVD-ROM program.

WORKAROUND

The following text describes how to eliminate the DVD error described in this article:
  1. Click the Start button, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
  2. The Control Panel window appears.
  3. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
  4. The Add/Remove Programs Properties window appears.
  5. Scroll-down and click PC Friendly and then click the Add/Remove button.
  6. Follow the on-screen instructions to uninstall the PC Friendly software.
  7. Insert a DVD and start the Cinemaster DVD program.
  8. When the message prompting to choose this player as the default, click yes.
  9. Click the Play button and the movie will play.
