SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to play a movie (.mov) file, you may receive one or both of the following error messages:
  • MMSYSTEM277 A problem occured initializing MCI. Try restarting Windows.
    No combination of filters could be found to render the stream.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if you are using an out-of-date version of Microsoft Windows Media Player.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install the most current version of Windows Media Player from the Microsoft Windows Update Site:
  1. Click Start, click Windows Update, click Product Updates, and then click Yes.
  2. Click to select the Windows Media Player check box, and then click Download.
  3. Follow the instructions on the screen to finish the installation of Windows Media Player.
