Mail from Address with an Encapsulated Address Crashes the SMTP Service (231705)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Microsoft SMTP service on a computer with Microsoft Exchange 2000 installed, the Inetinfo.exe program may crash.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because the "from" address is being improperly handled by the Microsoft SMTP service.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix that corrects this problem is now available from Microsoft, but it has not been fully regression tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. If you are not severely affected by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Windows 2000 release that contains this fix.
