Error Message: Windows 98 Setup Has Detected Incompatible Drivers on Your System (231672)

SYMPTOMS

When you are installing Windows 98 Second Edition on a Toshiba computer, you may receive the following error message:
Windows 98 Setup has detected incompatible drivers on your system. Please see http://pcsupport.toshiba.com before upgrading your computer. Follow all instructions specific to your model then proceed with the Windows 98 upgrade.
You are then prompted to quit Setup.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if Windows 98 Second Edition Setup detects the Spower.drv file in the Windows\System folder.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, download and install updated drivers for your Toshiba computer before installing Windows 98 Second Edition. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Quit Setup.
  2. Delete the Spower.drv file in your Windows\System folder.
  3. Run Setup again.
  4. Download and install updated drivers from the following Toshiba Web site:
