SYMPTOMS

When you create a Briefcase folder and you use a name that includes an extension, the folder name may be displayed without the extension.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, create a briefcase folder using a name that does not contain an extension or contains two or more extensions. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click a blank area on the desktop, point to New, and then click Briefcase.
  2. Type the name you want for your briefcase folder, but do not type an extension or type two extensions, as in the following example:

    test.1.1

NOTE: The Test.1.1 briefcase folder is displayed as the Test.1 folder on the desktop. The folder properties contain the full name.
  3. Press ENTER after you type the folder name.

MORE INFORMATION

The MS-DOS name for the Briefcase folder is displayed using the complete folder name. The MS-DOS folder name is displayed in the 8.3 file name format.

If you want to remove the initial extension, right-click the briefcase folder, click Properties, delete the extension, and then click OK.
