SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade from Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2000 on a computer with a Cirrus Logic video adapter using the Cl54xx.sys driver, both a Cirrus Logic and a VGA video adapter are listed in Device Manager. The VGA video adapter has an exclamation point in a yellow circle next to it, indicating that it is not working properly. Both show that no driver is loaded, even though high screen resolutions are available and the driver seems to be loaded.

CAUSE

The Cirrus Logic controller is incorrectly identified in Windows 2000.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
