WordPad Document Opens with Wrong Font Size (227156)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows 98

This article was previously published under Q227156

SYMPTOMS

After you save a document created with a 12-point font size in WordPad, the font size may be changed to the default 10-point font size when you open the document again.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods:
  • Change the font size of the first character in the document to a font size other than 12 point before you save the document. The remainder of the document should keep the 12-point font size after being saved.
  • After you open a saved WordPad document, select the text and change the font size to 12 point. You can then edit or print the document using the 12-point font size, but the font size reverts to 10-point size after being saved.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

If you use a 12-point font size before another font size in a WordPad document, the 12-point font size is lost when you save the document. If you use a font size other than 12 point before using 12 point, the document retains the font size formatting after you save the document.
