SYMPTOMS

When you run the Discover Windows 98 Computer Essentials tutorial, some of the pictures in the tutorial may appear distorted, gray, or faded.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if your computer is displaying less than 16-bit high color. Some of the pictures in the Discover Windows 98 Computer Essentials tutorial are best viewed with 16-bit high color, and a setting lower than this may result in distortion, fading, and so on.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue and properly display all of the graphics in the Discover Windows 98 Computer Essentials tutorial, configure your video adapter to display 16-bit high color:

WARNING: If you are unsure whether your video adapter is capable of supporting 16-bit high color, please consult your video adapter documentation, or contact your hardware manufacturer before performing the following steps.
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Display.
