SYMPTOMS

When you publish a PowerPoint 2000 presentation containing two or more overlapping animated Graphics Interchange Format (GIF) images in Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) version 3.0 format, the animation may not be preserved or may not appear as expected.

You may find that when you view the published PowerPoint 2000 presentation in a Web browser, one or more of the animations may not be moving and may appear on the screen twice.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if both of the following conditions are true:
  • There are two or more animated GIF files that are overlapping in a PowerPoint presentation.

    -and-
  • The PowerPoint presentation has been saved in HTML version 3.0 format.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods.

Method 1

Do not use overlapping animated GIF files in PowerPoint presentations that you want to publish as HTML pages.

Method 2

Save the presentation in a later HTML format. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the File menu, click Save As.
  2. In the Save As dialog box, click Web Page (*.htm; *.html) in the Save as type list.

A new command button, the Publish button, appears next to the text Save a copy and customize its contents.
  3. In the File name box, type your file name.
  4. Click the Publish button that appeared in step 2.
  5. In the Publish as Web Page dialog box, click Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or later (high fidelity), and then click Publish.
