SYMPTOMS
When additional Windows 2000 files are required, you may be prompted to install the files from a location that is different from the location from which you installed Windows 2000.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if Windows 2000 was installed from a folder on the hard disk. Windows 2000 is designed to install additional files from the Windows 2000 CD-ROM or a network installation point.
RESOLUTIONWARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may
require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve
problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk.
To resolve this issue, locate the following value in the registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SourcePath
Windows 2000 uses this value to locate additional files. You can modify this value to point to the path for your installation files.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
