OL98: Hang in FIsRootFoldEntry When Opening a New Window and Selecting a Link for a Public Folder on the Outlook Bar (226335)

SYMPTOMS

Outlook may stop responding when opening a new window and selecting a link for a public folder on the Outlook Bar.

A DrWtsn32.log is produced that looks like:

Application exception occurred:
App: Outlook.DBG (pid=333)
When: 4/8/1997 @ 15:27:56.295
Exception number: c0000005 (access violation)
					

CAUSE

Outlook had a re-entrancy on the same thread into code that destroyed a global object.

RESOLUTION

A supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Microsoft Outlook service pack that contains this hotfix.
