When you try to add a field to a group footer on a data access page, the field is always added as a PivotTable control.

Often, users want to generate totals per group. For example, they may want to display the total price for all the items on an invoice.

Totals are typically calculated within the group footer. However, when you add the field to be totaled to the group footer of a data access page, you find that the field automatically becomes a PivotTable control, no matter what you do to try to avoid this.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

  1. Open the sample database Northwind.mdb or the sample Access project NorthwindCS.adp.
  2. In the Database window, click Pages, click New, click Design View, and then click OK.
  3. If the field list is not displayed, click Field List on the View menu.
  4. In the field list, click the Database tab, expand Tables, expand Categories, and then drag CategoryName into the Section: Unbound section.
  5. Expand Products, and then drag ProductID to the top edge of the bar labeled NavigationSection: Categories. Drop ProductID when you see a blue line appear with inward-pointing arrows on each end of the line.
  6. On the View menu, click Sorting and Grouping. Note that there are two group record sources: Categories and Products.
  7. Click the Categories group record source to give it focus, and then set the Group Footer property to Yes.
  8. Close the Sorting and Grouping dialog box, and then drag UnitPrice into Footer: Categories.
Note that the field is automatically entered as a PivotTable control and that no matter what you try, you cannot change this.
