ACC2000: You Are Not Prompted to Save Changes After You Insert a New Column in a Table (225877)

SYMPTOMS

In Datasheet view of a table, you insert a new column into the table. But when you close the table, you are not prompted to save the changes.

RESOLUTION

Add new columns (fields) in Design view of a table rather than in Datasheet view.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

Steps to Reproduce the Behavior

CAUTION: If you follow the steps in this example, you modify the sample database Northwind.mdb. You may want to back up the Northwind.mdb file and follow these steps on a copy of the database.

  1. Open the sample database Northwind.mdb.
  2. In the Database window, click Tables under Objects, and then double-click Shippers.
  3. On the Insert menu, click Column. Note that a new column named Field1 is inserted into the table.
  4. Close the table. Note that you are not prompted to save the change.
  5. Open the Shippers table in Design view. Note that the new column (field) was saved.
