A document opens in a new window when you click a hyperlink in Word 2003, Word 2002, or Word 2000 (224717)

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Word, when you click a hyperlink to another document on your hard disk, the document opens in a new window.

NOTE: This behavior occurs even when you do not include the \n switch in the hyperlink field. The \n switch causes the hyperlink to open a new window by default.

CAUSE

This functionality is based on the Single Document Interface (SDI) design, in which each document occupies its own window. This behavior is different from versions of Word prior to Word 2000, which use the Multiple Document Interface (MDI) design.
