WD2000: Web Page Doesn't Open in Word Using Web Toolbar (224678)

SYMPTOMS

When you type a Web address (URL) into the Address box of the Web toolbar in Word and then press ENTER, the Web page does not open in Word. Instead, the Web page opens in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.

CAUSE

This functionality is by design of Microsoft Word and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.

WORKAROUND

To edit the Web page in Word, use one of the following methods appropriate for your situation.

Method 1: Use Open on the File Menu

To open the Web page directly in Word, use the following steps:
  1. On the File menu in Word, click Open.
  2. In the File name box, type the Web address (URL) of the Web page.
  3. Click Open.

Method 2: Use "Edit with Microsoft Word for Windows"

After the Web page has loaded in Internet Explorer 5, click Edit with Microsoft Word for Windows on the File menu.

NOTE: If Edit with Microsoft Word for Windows does not appear on the File menu in Internet Explorer 5, or you do not have Internet Explorer 5, use Method 1 of this article.
