Cannot upgrade Not For Resale version of BackOffice Small Business Server (224354)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to upgrade an existing installation of BackOffice Small Business Server 4.0 or 4.0a to Small Business Server 4.5, you may receive the following error message:
This version of Small Business Server cannot be used to upgrade existing installations of Small Business Server or BackOffice Server.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you use a Not for Resale version of Small Business Server 4.5 to upgrade. The Not for Resale version is for testing purposes only and cannot be used as an upgrade.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, purchase a retail copy of Small Business ServerS 4.5 or the Version Upgrade (VUP) for Small Business Server 4.5.
