OL2000: Messages with Multiple Attachments Sent to AOL Users Do Not Display Correctly (223911)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

This article was previously published under Q223911

SYMPTOMS

If you send messages with multiple file attachments to America Online (AOL) users, they do not receive the messages in a readable format.

CAUSE

AOL combines the text of the message and the attachments into a single MIME (.mim) file. There are no viewers for files of this type.

WORKAROUND

Use one of the following options to work around this issue:
  • Send multiple messages that have only one attachment each to AOL users.
  • Combine the multiple attachments into one compressed file (see the "References" section).
  • Advise any AOL users who receive messages as MIME files to open them using WinZip, by Nico Mak Computing, Inc., in Classic mode. The message text and all of the attachments are displayed intact.

NOTE: If you run WinZip in Wizard mode, it does not open this type of file.
