SYMPTOMS

If you create a rule in Outlook Express 5, and then restore Outlook Express 4.0, you are not able to import the message rules that you created while you were using Outlook Express 5.

WORKAROUND

To work around this issue, create the rules manually after you restore Outlook Express 4.0. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Inbox Assistant.
  2. Click Add, enter the conditions, and then click OK.

MORE INFORMATION

Outlook Express version 4.0 and Outlook Express 5 use different methods to create and manage message rules. Outlook Express 4.0 uses the Inbox Assistant functionality. Outlook Express 5 uses the Message Rules functionality.
