OL2000: CTRL+SHIFT+L Inserts Bullet in Message (223537)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 2000

This article was previously published under Q223537

SYMPTOMS

When you press CTRL+SHIFT+L in a new message, you insert a bullet into the body of your message instead of opening a new distribution list.

CAUSE

Your insertion point is in the body of the message instead of the header.

RESOLUTION

Either use the menu command to insert a new distribution list, or place the insertion point in the message header and then press CTRL+SHIFT+L.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

In a new e-mail message, on the File menu, point to New, and note that the shortcut keys for Distribution List are CTRL+SHIFT+L. If the insertion point is in the header area of the message, and you press CTRL+SHIFT+L, Outlook opens a new distribution list dialog box. If however, your insertion point is in the message body and you press CTRL+SHIFT+L, Outlook inserts a bullet in the message body if the message format is Microsoft Outlook Rich Text, HTML, or you use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages. If the message format is Plain Text, nothing happens.

Regardless of the location of your insertion point, to open a new distribution list, on the File menu, point to New, and click Distribution List.
