ACC2000: New Table Not Listed in RecordSource Property Dropdown List or Field List (223210)

This article applies to a Microsoft Access database (.mdb) and to a Microsoft Access project (.adp).

SYMPTOMS

If you create a table while a data access page is open in Design view, the new table is not available as a record source or in the field list.

RESOLUTION

Method 1

Save and close the data access page. When you reopen the data access page, the new table will be available from the RecordSource property dropdown list.

Method 2

Right-click the database name in the field list, and then click Refresh.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Access 2000.

CAUTION: If you follow the steps in this example, you modify the sample database Northwind.mdb. You may want to back up the Northwind.mdb file and follow these steps on a copy of the database.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Open the sample Access database file Northwind.mdb or the sample Access project file NorthwindCS.adp.
  2. In the Database window, click Pages under Objects, and then click New.
  3. In the New Data Access Page dialog box, click Design View, and then click OK.
  4. Switch to the Database window, and click Tables under Objects.
  5. Select the Employees table, and on the Edit menu, click Copy.
  6. On the Edit menu, click Paste.
  7. In the Paste Table As dialog box, type TestTable, and then click OK.
  8. Switch to the new data access page, right-click in the unbound section, and then click Properties on the menu that appears.
  9. In the Properties dialog box, click the Data tab, click in the RecordSource property box, and then click the arrow.

    Note that TestTable is not listed.
