Money 99 Err Msg: Setup Could Not Write to Line in the INI File (223039)

SYMPTOMS

When you install Money 99 or Money 99 Personal and Business, you may receive the following error message:

Setup could not write to line in the INI File
File: 'WIN.INI'
Section: 'Fonts'
Key: 'Tahoma (True Type)'

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if the Win.ini file in your Windows folder is marked with the read-only attribute.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:

  1. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
  2. In the right pane, click the Windows folder.

    NOTE: If you do not see any files or folders in the right pane, click Show Files.
  3. On the View menu, click Options or Folder Options.
  4. Click the View tab.
  5. Click to clear the Hide file extensions for known file types check box, and then click OK.
  6. In the right pane, right-click the Win.ini file, and then click Properties.
  7. Click to clear the Read-only check box, and then click OK.
  8. Right-click the Win.ini file, and then click Rename.
  9. Type win.old, and then press ENTER.
  10. Restart the computer.
  11. Start the Money 99 installation program, and then follow the instructions on the screen to install Money.
  12. Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
  13. In the right pane, click the Windows folder.

    NOTE: If you do not see any files or folders in the right pane, click Show Files.
  14. In the right pane, right-click the Win.ini file, and then click Rename.
  15. Type win.xxx, and then press ENTER.
  16. In the right pane, right-click the Win.old file, and then click Rename.
  17. Type win.ini, and then press ENTER.
