On page 32 of Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition "At A Glance" manual, the documentation incorrectly describes the ability of the AutoCorrect feature to replace typed fractions with stacked fractions (fractional characters). This is not a feature of Microsoft Word 98 Macintosh Edition.

To add fractional characters to a Word document, use one of the following two methods.

Method 1: Use the Fractional Field Code

  1. On the Insert menu, click Field.
  2. In the field code field, type EQ\f(x,y) where x and y are the numerator and denominator of the fraction.
  3. Click OK.

Method 2: Use the Equation Editor

  1. On the Insert menu, click Object.
  2. In the Object type box, click Microsoft Equation 3.0.
  3. Clear the Float over text check box, and then click OK.
  4. Click the Fraction and radical templates button, and then select the type of fraction.
  5. Fill in the fields of the fraction, and then close the Equation Editor box.
