OL2000: Pasted Graphic Missing in Reply to Plain Text Message (222312)

SYMPTOMS

You reply to a message using Microsoft Word as your e-mail editor, and before sending you paste a graphic in the reply. The message recipient does not see the graphic when they receive your reply message. You may experience the same behavior with other objects you paste into a reply.

CAUSE

The message you replied to is formatted as Plain Text.

RESOLUTION

Copy the contents of the original message into a new Rich Text Format message and then paste the graphic prior to sending. Or, insert the object as an attachment. Plain text messages can contain attachments.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Plain text messages cannot handle embedded objects such as graphics. Using Word as your e-mail editor you can choose Rich Text Format, HTML, and Plain Text formats. If you are using Word as your editor, you may not notice that the original message is in Plain Text format when you reply.

To change to a format that will support embedded graphics, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options and then click Mail Format.
  2. In Message Format, Click to select Rich Text or HTML inthe Send in Thus Message Format list.
  3. Click OK to save your changes.
To use Word as your e-mail editor, follow these steps:
    • On the Tools menu, click Options.
    • On the Mail Format tab, click to select Use Microsoft Word to edit e-mail messages.
